Alappuzha (Malayalam: ആലപ്പുഴ pronunciation (help·info)), also known as Alleppey, is a town in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India.This town is considered to be the oldest planned town in this region and the lighthouse built on the coast of the town is the first of its kind along the Arabian coast(refer encyclopedia of Kerala in Malayalam language). As per 2001 census Alleppey is the sixth largest city in Kerala with an urban population of 177,029.^[1] Alleppey is situated 62 kilometres (39 mi) to the south of Kochi and 155 kilometres (96 mi) north of Trivandrum.^[2] A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, it was described as the one of the places known as "Venice of the East" by Lord Curzon . It is the administrative headquarters of Alappuzha District. Malayalam is the most spoken language. Hindi, English and Tamil are also widely spoken in the town.

Alleppey is an important tourist destination in India.^[3] Backwaters of Alleppey are world famous and is the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala. It connects Kumarakom and Cochin towards north and Quilon to the South. Alappuzha is also the access point for the annualNehru Trophy Boat Race, held on the Punnamada Lake, near Alappuzha, held on the second Saturday of August every year, is the most competitive and popular of the boat races in India.^[4] The mullackal chirap is also one of the attractions of allapuzha which is the festive season held ten colorfull days every year in the month of December.

Apart from Backwaters some other attractions in Alleppey are Alappuzha Beach offering one of the most beautiful views of the Arabian Sea, Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, Edathua Church, Champakulam Valia Palli, Krishnapuram Palace^[5] also attracts lot of tourists.The tasty ambalappuzha payasam is very famous dessert which will attract everyone of us to the venice of the east. Coir is the most important commodity manufactured in Alappuzha.^[6] The Coir Board was established by the Central Government under the provisions of the Coir Industry Act, 1955. There is also a Coir Research Institute functioning at Kalavoor.^[7]

 watching the world’s interest in Halong Bay. In the Official New 7 Wonders of Nature Halong Bay is one of 28 finalists in a global vote on the seven most spectacular natural spaces in the world. We won’t know until Nov. 11, 2011 (11.11.11) whether the world thinks Halong Bay is one of the world’s most stunning natural landscapes, or seascapes.

So much is going to go into the winning of that designation. Politics. PR Campaigns. There’s just no telling who wins. But it’s been no small thing for Halong Bay to be culled from, first 440 different locations in 220 countries, and then from among 77 locations to be among the 28 finalists.

In early September 2010, the voting put Halong Bay in the #2 spot. Today, as I check, we’ve dropped some. But we’ll rise again! By the time all’s said and done, more than a billion votes will be factored into the seven designees.

Qinghai Lake or mTsho sngon po historically known as Koko Nor or Kuku Nor or Kukunor is a saline lake situated in the province of Qinghai, and is the largest lake in China. The names Qinghai and Kokonor both mean "Blue/Teal Sea" in Chinese and Mongolian. It is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) west of the provincial capital of Xining at 3,205 m (10,515 feet) above sea level in a depression of the Tibetan Plateau in the traditional Tibetan province of Amdo. Twenty-three rivers and streams empty into Qinghai Lake, most of them seasonal. Five permanent streams provide 80% of total influx.
