Approximately 20 km from Beirut, in the mountains, there is a city
called Ariza - an important place for pilgrims that like a complex
located there. It's fascinating to get to the complex by cableway from
Jounieh - it takes 10 minutes and about 7 US dollars (there and back).
Cableroad is called "Teleferic" in French, most part of the way from Jounieh is via this cableroad.
In the end of the way it's necessary to change for funicular - a rail
van that will lift you to the top for 2 minutes - this time will be
enough you understand the difference between the teleferic and
funicular.
On the territory of the complex there is a statue of the Virgin Mary
painted white and a huge Maronite cathedral that in fact more resembles a
building of a spaceport.
Not far from that fantastic cathedral is St. Paul Melkite Catholic Church in the Byzantine style that looks more familiar...
A view from the mountain at the coast including the northern part of Beirut.
