Alcazaba de Merida - the Ancient Fortress of Spain

The fortress was built for Abderramán II (Arab: عبد الرحمن الثاني) - an emir of Emirate of Cordoba in about 825.

In the center of Alcazaba is the Roman terrace.

A view from the wall at Puentes Romano (closer) & Lusitania (further).

Stages of development

Aljibe andalusi - a well with drinking water.

Remains of the houses walls.

Such were the streets.

The main entrance - a view from inside.

Like in an Arab fairy-tale...

Roman terraces - today here is a toilet....

Copper pipes.

Marble stumps - remains of the former Roman luxury.
