A Must See Temple of Bali

Mother Temple of Besakih or Pura Besakih temple was built more than 1000 years ago. It is in the north-west slope of the holy mountain Gunung Agung where all gods and goddesses of Bali island live.
This temple is devoted to the spirit of the village founder Vishnu - the god giving life to everything. It is also called the temple of Bali Mother. Each person who comes to Bali should visit it, it has special energy, spirit and really inspires to contemplate and cognize the world.

On the island this temple is the most popular, it represents a huge complex consisting of three big temples - Penataran Agung (temple of Shiva), Batu Madeg (temple of Vishnu) and Kiduling Kreteg (temple of Brahma) and 20 smaller ones.

On the temple territory there are a lot of sculptures.

On the main yard there are tombs decorated with red, black, white cloths and flower wreaths. The most important ceremonies are held in Penataran Agung.

The Balinese are preparing for a ceremony.

Once in a hundred years here they celebrate Ekadasa Rudra, once in ten years - Panca Wali Krama, and in October of each year, under the full moon, Piodalalan.
True Hindus do their best to visit the temple on these meaningful days to bring gifts to Gods, contribute to the complex restoration and get peace and calmness.

Many visitors wear sarongs.

The Balinese are true believers.
